ASA FILMS LTD 2006-2015 founded Kurdish Creative Film Centre, Manchester, UK. KCFC is dedicated to the provision and development of film and theatre skills within the refugee and asylum seeker communities; offering them a voice whereby they may record their experiences and express their cultural identities, and the necessary skill-sets to find a creative and productive place in society. Festival 2005 - 2014: Manchester Kurdish Film Festival Established, co-ordinate, and serve as Festival Director. Workshops 2008 “Voice” February – May Filmmaking workshops conducted at Bury Met with Young People from Refugee and Asylum Seeker backgrounds, resulting in the production of one short film, “Lost and Found” 2008 “Rainbow” Ten-day filmmaking workshop targeted at Young People from Refugee and Asylum Seeker backgrounds, resulting in the production of one short film, “No Way Out” 2007 “Umbrella” November - December 2007 Two-week filmmaking workshop targeted at Young People and Adults from Refugee and Asylum Seeker backgrounds, working together, to create four short films. 2007 “Sunshine” January - April 2007 Ten – day filmmaking workshops, aimed at involving young people of various age ranges in the creation of short films, and taking in the various key stages of Development, Pre-Production, Production, and Post-Production and Distribution. Thus far there have been three such projects: the Manchester Project, working with 8 – 13 year olds; the Kent project, and the Croyden Project working with 15 – 19 year old. 2006: Blue River: Eight month intensive film-making workshop with young people from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds. 2006: Film-making workshops for Schools Led workshops at Barlow R High School Manchester and North Manchester High School for Boys. Special Jury Mention at “Exposures” Film Festival, Cornerhouse Cinema. This film has since formed the basis for a series of workshops on the subject of Asylum held at six primary schools in Greater Manchester. Theatre · 2003-2004 World Theatre Company (WTC) (Manchester, UK) Founded WTC 2003. Writer/ Director of company’s first production “On the Border” for 2003 UK tour. Writer, director “The Village in the Sky” 2004 UK tour. 1995-2002 Citizen Theatre Company (Chamchamal/ Kirkuk, Iraq). Company’s Artistic Director Writer/director on ten plays, directed thirteen productions and performed fifteen times with this company. A celebrated rendition of peshawa in “Lost Village” led to honor of “best actor” at the Kurdish theatre festival. 1986-1988 Chamchamal Theatre Company Trained with the company first as a theatre technician and then discovered his passion for performance. He went on to successfully perform his first lead in “When the Sun shines” and eventually scripted and produced his first play.
